SUMMARY:Cardboard Boat Race on Curlew Lake
DESCRIPTION:On July 16th\, 2017\, teams of 3 people of any age will gather at Black Beach Resort at 2 p.m. to construct a cardboard boat (in the style of their choosing) in 90 minutes using the following materials: \nDuct tape\, sheets of 4×8 corrugated cardboard\, a wooden straight edge (which may also be used for a paddle)\, markers\, pencils and a utility knife will be provided to all teams upon start of the competition. \nNote: All teams must include 3 people constructing the boat\, however\, teams may choose to race with 1-3 people in the boat. Additional construction materials will be given to those teams with more than 1 person in the boat during the race. Teams will receive their materials upon arrival\, not before. \nWhen the race begins\, 1\, 2\, or 3 people will float roughly 30 feet out into the lake on their boat and back to the dock. Race participants must be wearing their own approved flotation devices. Participants under 18 must have a parent or guardian present. \nSign up by picking up a registration form at Harding’s or Black Beach Resort – or by registering at curlewlakerace.com. SUMMARY:Honky Tonk Petanque Tournmanet
DESCRIPTION:Join in the fun at the 11th Annual Honky Tonk Pétanque Tournament! \nThe eleventh annual Honky Tonk Petanque tournament honoring Marius Ciais will be on Saturday September 30th and Sunday October 1st at the Northern Inn in Republic.  \nPétanque is a fun and simple game similar to bocce ball or lawn bowling\, and the “honky tonk” adds some fun! \nTeams of three can play\, and all equipment will be furnished unless players prefer to use their own petanque sets. Adults can play with kids and no special skills are needed other than the ability to roll steel balls toward the target ball. \nThe event offers a total of $1\,000 in cash and prizes\, including $500 for first place! \nRegistration is $50 per team if registered by September 15th ($60 after). Preregistration at the Northern Inn is encouraged.  \nWeekend events will include an instructional demonstration on Saturday morning for first timers or those just looking to brush up on the rules. Saturday’s games will end with potluck-style BBQ with live music! The final rounds of the tournament will be played Sunday morning.
