CITY OF REPUBLIC JUNE 4, 2007 REGULAR MEETING

Those present: Mayor Shirley A. Couse. Council Members: DiAnne Hewitt, Jim Burnside, Linda Hall, and Alex Wirt.

Guests Present were: Bruce McAuley, Brenda Starkey, Dianna Galvan and Daniel Galvan.

Employees Present were: Chief Merritt.

Mayor Couse called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the pledge of allegiance

Council reviewed the May 21, 2007 regular meeting minutes. Alex Wirt moved to approve the May 21, 2007 minutes. Linda Hall seconded; motion carried.

Mayor Couse discussed with Council about the burning ban issue. Mayor Couse stated that the senate house bill did not pass so it is not an issue, but will need a committee to comply with the original ban. This issue is tabled until next meeting.

Council reviewed possible ordinances regarding the use of City owned Facilities and Park Regulations. Discussion followed.

Mayor Couse opened the Public Hearing for the Final Elements for the Comprehensive Plan at 6:45 pm. Discussion followed. There being no public comments, Mayor Couse closed the public hearing at 6:55 p.m.

Dianna Galvan, Ferry County Auditor asked Council if it would be possible to install an Elections Ballet Box at City Hall. Discussion followed. Alex Wirt moved to allow the County to install and maintain a ballet box at City Hall with all expenses paid by Ferry County. DiAnne Hewitt seconded; motion carried.

Chief of Police Merritt discussed with Council about an emergency management meeting at Pend Oreille County on June 7. Mayor Couse will try to attend this meeting. Chief Merritt also discussed the Drug Task Force Agreement. DiAnne Hewitt moved for Mayor Couse to sign the agreement and to contribute $1,000.00 to the Drug Task Force. Linda Hall seconded; motion carried.

Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Margo Sattler discussed with Council about Public Works Director Casey Giddings attending a workshop for Pumps and Pumping in Water and Wastewater Facilities in Spokane for 3 days for his certifications. DiAnne Hewitt moved for Casey to attend the workshop. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried.

Mayor Couse discussed with Council about a Budget Workshop in Leavenworth. Linda Hall moved to allow any of the Council who want to attend to go. DiAnne Hewitt seconded; motion carried.

Alex Wirt updated Council on the video about Republic and asked Council for their input. Discussion followed. Alex also updated the Council about the American Legion regarding replacing the missing flag, flag pole cord and lighting the flag pole at Patterson Park. Fred Bremner has donated a light fixture for the flag pole.

Mayor Couse updated the Council on the Pine Grove Water issue.

Council reviewed letters sent from and received into City Hall. Council reviewed building permits #2007-08, 09, 10 & 11 Mayor Couse read a letter of resignation from Dan Chaplik who is on the PDA board.

DiAnne Hewitt moved to pay claims checks #18937-18956 in the amount of $10,127.85. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried.

DiAnne Hewitt moved to pay payroll checks #102621-102635 in the amount of $28,358.55. Alex Wirt seconded; motion carried. Linda Hall abstained.

Alex Wirt moved to adjourn the meeting. Linda Hall seconded; motion carried.
