CITY OF REPUBLIC June 18, 2007 REGULAR MEETING
Those present: Mayor Shirley A. Couse. Council Members: Alex Wirt, DiAnne Hewitt and Jim Burnside.
Guests Present were: Milt Chambers, Bruce McAuley and Brenda Starkey. Employees Present were: Casey Giddings.
Mayor Couse called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the pledge of allegiance
Council reviewed the June 4, 2007 Minutes. DiAnne Hewitt moved to approve the June 4, 2007 minutes. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried.
Alex Wirt moved to table Ordinance #2007-09 & #2007-10 to the next regular meeting to allow Council time to review them. DiAnne Hewitt seconded; motion carried
Alex Wirt moved to approve Resolution #2007-06 declaring certain property as surplus property of the City of Republic. DiAnne Hewitt seconded; motion carried.
Milt Chambers President of the Republic PDA discussed with Council about obtaining a loan, if necessary, from the City for the down payment on the property for the Torboy project. Alex Wirt moved to approve the loan of $3,480.00, not to exceed 90 days for repayment, to the PDA for the down payment of the Torboy property, in the event that the funding from USDA has not arrived in a timely manner. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried.
Public Works Director, Casey Giddings updated Council on the seminar he attended in Spokane and he updated Council on fixtures for Patterson Park restrooms. Casey Giddings discussed the possibility of obtaining grindings from the state project that is in process on Sherman Pass. DiAnne Hewitt asked Casey to pick up the ore bucket that has been donated to the City by Gary & Judy Jensen, discussion followed on obtaining more of the old mining equipment to place along Clark Ave.
City Clerk, Chris Stevens asked Council to approve obtaining a yearly subscription for the Omak Chronicle. DiAnne Hewitt moved to approve the purchase of the subscription in the amount of $25.00 per year. Jim Burnside seconded; Alex Wirt abstained, motion carried.
Mayor Couse discussed the cold air return repair. Alex Wirt moved to retain OB’s Fix It, to do the repair with a maximum of $3,000.00 for the repair. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried. Mayor Couse would like to table the Letter from the Department of Ecology to the next regular meeting. Mayor Couse received a complaint into City Hall June 18, 2007, against 3 City employees; Mayor Couse recused herself regarding the complaint and Mayor Pro Tempore Alex Wirt will handle it.
Council went into executive session at 7:15 p.m. for a personnel issue, for approximately 10 minutes. Council came out of executive session at 7:25 p.m.
Council reviewed letters sent from and received into City Hall. DiAnne Hewitt moved to pay claims checks #18957-18985in the amount of $29,927.24. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried.
DiAnne Hewitt moved to pay payroll checks #102636-102643 in the amount of $3,860.00. Alex Wirt seconded; motion carried.
DiAnne Hewitt moved to adjourn the meeting. Alex Wirt seconded; motion carried.
