CITY OF REPUBLIC JULY 2, 2007 REGULAR MEETING
Those present: Mayor Shirley A. Couse. Council Members: DiAnne Hewitt, Dave Michel and Jim Burnside.
Guests Present were: Bruce McAuley, Larry Harshberger, Randy Cooper, Laurel Braun and Brenda Starkey.
Employees Present were: Casey Giddings and Chief Merritt.
Mayor Couse called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the pledge of allegiance.
Council reviewed the June 18, 2007 Minutes. DiAnne Hewitt moved to approve the June 18, 2007 minutes. Dave Michel seconded; motion carried.
Larry Harshberger of the Truck & Car Museum introduced Randy Cooper who discussed with Council the possibility of obtaining the two (2) old fire trucks from the City. Discussion followed. Tabled to next regular meeting.
Dave Michel (as a citizen) discussed with Council about a trade in property concerning State Street. Discussion followed and was tabled to the next regular meeting.
Possible Ordinances #’s 2007-09 & 2007-10 were tabled for further review from Council.
Public Works Director, Casey Giddings discussed with Council approving Resolution #2007-07, Increasing shop rate charges. DiAnne Hewitt moved to approve Resolution #2007-07. Dave Michel seconded; motion carried. Casey Giddings updated Council on the repairs to the park restrooms. Casey updated Council on Erdman St. and the speed bumps. As it currently lies it is private property and the owner has the right to do with it as he/she sees fit.
Chief Merritt discussed purchasing an extended warranty on the department’s tasers, due to one being out of commission and needs to be replaced. The extended warranty will allow that and the cost of the warranty is $350.00 the cost of a new taser is approximately $800.00. Dave Michel moved to approve the purchase of the extended warranty. DiAnne seconded; motion carried. Chief Merritt updated Council on the on going deer problem in the city limits. Chief Merritt discussed that the fish & game department will issue to the City permits to use for the deer. However, permits will not come to the City until August/September due to new born deer. Chief Merritt discussed with Council that he will have a plan to educate the public, to not feed the deer. Bruce McAuley spoke to the Council about capturing and castrating bucks. Chief Merritt updated Council on the Emergency Management training that will be given to Mayor, Council members and the City Department Heads on July 18, 2007 at 6:00 p.m.
Mayor Couse updated Council on the Sherman Pass Scenic By-Way project being done by the Forest Service at Hesse Park, the construction will begin July 16, 2007; the park will be closed to the public while under construction. However there is parking at the east end of the Tiger Pathway that may be utilized.
Council went into executive session at 7:50 p.m. for a personnel issue, for approximately 15 minutes. Council came out of executive session at 8:05 p.m.
Council reviewed 3 new building permits.
Council reviewed letters sent from and received into City Hall. Jim Burnside moved to pay claims checks #18987-19006 in the amount of $9,040.68. DiAnne Hewitt seconded; motion carried.
DiAnne Hewitt moved to pay payroll checks #102644-102658 in the amount of $26,894.67. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried.
DiAnne Hewitt moved to adjourn the meeting. Dave Michel seconded; motion carried.
