New police vehicle arrives
Sgt. Ken Marcuson of the Republic Police Department shows his new patrol vehicle to Jon DeVaney and Rick Rose of the US Department of Agriculture Rural Development Wednesday, Sept. 17. The vehicle was purchased and outfitted with $33,100 of USDA Community Facilities grant and loan money. DeVaney, Rose and other officials were in Republic to present a ceremonial check to the city which represented a $24,000 grant and $9,100 loan that enabled the city to acquire and equip the 2008 Chevy Trailblazer. It was purchased from Sunrise Motors in Omak and equipped by FCI Custom Police Vehicles in North Bend. As soon as the loan is paid off, the city hopes to use this program again to replace its older patrol vehicles, according to a press release from the city.
Park gets new swings
Young girls swing on a new swing set put into Republic's Patterson Park Friday, Aug. 15. The eight-swing set was purchased with donations from area residents and businesses. The project was headed up by city councilman Dave Michel.
Michel says he hopes to purchase some teeter-totters and perhaps a new merry-go-round for the park's playground. There is an open account at city hall where anyone interested may make a tax deductible donation, Michel said. That money can only be spent for the park's playground equipment. There is still about $2,600 left in the account, he said.
