CITY OF REPUBLIC JUNE 2, 2008 REGULAR MEETING

Those present: Mayor Shirley A. Couse. Council Members: Jim Burnside, DiAnne Hewitt and Alex Wirt.

Guests Present were: Kent McCormick, Bruce McAuley, Randy Cooper, Kristy Cromwell, Troy Reynolds, Brenda Starkey, Lindasue Fox and Mark Kirkpatrick.

Mayor Couse called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the pledge of allegiance.

Council reviewed the May 19, 2008 minutes. Alex Wirt moved to approve the May 19, 2008 minutes. Jim Burnside seconded; Mayor Couse made a spelling correction; motion carried.

Randy Cooper discussed with Council about the 2 antique fire trucks that are currently housed and displayed at the Husky Car & Truck Museum. Mr. Cooper inquired about the museum purchasing the truck as they are in need of some repair and new tires. Mr. Cooper updated Council that the museum has recently been reorganized and become a non-profit organization, a 501(C). There was discussion of surplusing the fire trucks and the museum purchasing with an agreement that in the event that the museum were to cease to exist, the ownership of the fire trucks would return to the City of Republic. Discussion followed. This issue will be researched out and was tabled to the next City Council meeting.

Council discussed the signs and dedication to the L.W. Dragnich Memorial Sports Complex. Alex Wirt will contact Dave Konz and find out the progress of the signs.

The Prospector Days Parade letter requesting permission to hold the parade on State Highway 20 has been delivered to the D.O.T. The Agreement has been signed and returned to the D.O.T. DiAnne Hewitt moved to approve the Prospector Days Parade route. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried.

Council reviewed a letter from Youth Dynamics Director, David Heinen requesting the street closure of Clark Ave. between 6th Street and Delaware Ave. on June 27, 2008, Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00p.m. to hold activities for the young people of our community. Council discussed this issue and asked Chris Stevens to notify Mr. Heinen and ask him to attend the next Council meeting so he can present a list of activities that Youth Dynamics would like to hold to Council.

Mayor Couse read the Grant Administrator’s report as she was absent from the meeting. Mayor Couse discussed a letter received from the County 911 Governing Board and Trauma Council stating that there was a vacancy on the board. Mayor Couse temporarily appointed Police Administrator Alex Wirt to that position. Mayor Couse discussed with Council the possibility of hiring a City Administrator. Discussion followed, Mayor Couse will look into this issue.

Officer Roberts reported on details in the Police Department.

DiAnne Hewitt discussed memorials being put in Hesse Park. This will be tabled to the next meeting.

Other tabled items are the OHV Draft Ordinance and the possible Solid Waste Management Plan.

Council reviewed Building Permit # 2008-15.

DiAnne Hewitt motioned to approve payroll checks #102896-102910 in the amount of $26,401.04. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried.

DiAnne Hewitt motioned to pay claims checks #19581-19599 in the amount of $17,672.33. Claims check #19580 for Consumer Deposit refunds/claims. (See warrant register) Alex Wirt seconded; motion carried.

Alex Wirt moved to adjourn the meeting. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried.
