CITY OF REPUBLIC July 20, 2009 REGULAR MEETING
Those present: Mayor Pro Tempore Alex Wirt. Council Members: DiAnne Hewitt, Jim Burnside, Dave Michel and Linda Hall.
Guests Present were: Larry Heming, Loni Simone, Russ Foster, Bob Heath and Brenda Starkey.
Employees Present were: Joy Culp and Ken Marcuson.
Mayor Pro Tempore Wirt called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Council reviewed the July 6, 2009 minutes. Linda Hall moved to approve the July 6, 2009 minutes. Dave Michel seconded, motion carried.
Clerk Treasurer Margo Sattler introduced to Council, Joy Culp who is the new Deputy Clerk Treasurer. Margo also stated that the state auditor will be beginning the audit on September 21, 2009.
Linda Hall stated that she had spoken with Public Works Director Casey about a large boulder that is in the middle of Delaware Ave up past the Forest Service. It will cost approximately $2,700.00 to gravel and roll the road.
Sergeant Ken Marcuson informed Council that on Sunday, Officer Rainer was attacked by a pit bull dog and discharged his weapon trying to get the dog to let go of him. Officer Rainer was not harmed and Sergeant Marcuson gave him the day off. The dog was taken to Konz veterinary clinic. Ken also updated the Council on an application for an equipment grant in the amount of $10,000.00 that would be used for police department computers and other equipment. Ken also stated that the bike rally that was held over the week-end had 200 to 300 participants and that it went well with no problems.
Mayor Pro Tempore Wirt stated that the OHV grant had expired and that he was working on trying to get an extension.
DiAnne Hewitt updated the Council on the deer issue. She stated that there is a meeting on July 28 with the mule deer foundation.
Council reviewed letters received into and sent from City Hall.
There were no building permits.
Council reviewed the revised version of the Interlocal Agreement for the Criminal Justice between Ferry County and the City of Republic. Linda Hall motioned to approve the Interlocal Agreement. Dave Michel seconded, discussion followed; motion carried.
Jim Burnside updated the Council on the Ripple Field issue.
Council went into executive session with Clerk Treasurer Margo Sattler to discuss a personnel issue for approximately 10 minutes at 7:20 pm.
Council came out of executive session at 7:30 pm.
DiAnne Hewitt motioned to send Building Inspector, Tony Hall a certified and regular letter asking for a written letter of resignation and to return all of the City’s property. Dave Michel seconded, discussion followed; motion carried.
Dave Michel motioned to approve payroll checks #20500 -20506 in the amount of $3,460.00. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried. Linda Hall abstained.
Jim Burnside motioned to approve claims checks #20507 – 20524 in the amount of $46,249.20. DiAnne Hewitt seconded; motion carried.
Dave Michel moved to adjourn the meeting. Linda Hall seconded; motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
