CITY OF REPUBLIC FEB. 19, 2008 REGULAR MEETING

Those present: Mayor Shirley A. Couse. Council Members: Jim Burnside, Linda Hall and DiAnne Hewitt.

Guests Present were: Bruce McAuley and Brenda Starkey.

Employees Present were: Casey Giddings and Chief Merritt.

Mayor Couse called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Council reviewed the February 4, 2008 minutes. Linda Hall moved to approve the February 4, 2008 minutes. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried.

Brenda Starkey discussed with Council about the City of Republic placing an ad in the Vacationland Visitors Guide as they have done in previous years, the cost $895.00 for ½ page color ad. Linda Hall moved to approve the expenditure for the ad in the Vacationland Visitor Guide. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried.

Mayor Couse called for a motion to approve Resolution #2008-02 increasing rates for the city equipment with one operator. Discussion followed. DiAnne Hewitt moved to approve Resolution #2008-02. Linda Hall seconded; motion carried.

Public Works Director Casey Giddings updated Council on the purchase of a new flow meter approximately $2,000.00. The old flow meter quit operating and can not be repaired. Casey Giddings discussed with Council about a frozen water line that has been temporarily repaired until the weather warms up so the permanent repair can be completed.

Chief of Police Nick Merritt updated Council on receiving the NOVA (ORV) grant that he had applied for. It will be used for equipment and training. Chief Merritt asked to Council to schedule a public hearing for the pre application for the USDA grant, for vehicles for the police department. Linda Hall moved to have a public hearing for the above stated at 6:45 p.m. on March 17, 2008. DiAnne Hewitt seconded; motion carried.

Mayor Couse discussed with Council about reading through the City’s personnel policy and see if there are any updates or changes that they would like to discuss.

Council went into executive session at 7:15 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes for a personnel issue. Council came out of executive session at 7:30 p.m. Council went into executive session for approximately 15 minutes for a possible litigation issue. Council came out of executive session at 7:45 p.m.

DiAnne Hewitt motioned to approve payroll checks #102820-102827 in the amount of $4,060.00. Jim Burnside seconded; Linda Hall abstained; motion carried.

DiAnne Hewitt motioned to pay claims checks #19396-19417 in the amount of $22,060.97. Check #19394 through 19395 for Consumer Deposit refunds/claims. (See warrant register) Linda Hall seconded; motion carried.

DiAnne Hewitt moved to adjourn the meeting. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried.
