CITY OF REPUBLIC Feb. 16, 2009 REGULAR MEETING
Those present: Mayor Shirley A. Couse. Council Members: Jim Burnside, Dave Michel, Linda Hall, Larry Heming and Valerie Hester.
Employees Present were: Casey Giddings.
Guests Present were: Brian Kendall.
Mayor Couse called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Council reviewed the February 1, 2010 minutes. Linda Hall motioned to approve the February 1, 2010 minutes. Valerie Hester seconded, motion carried.
Council reviewed the January 2010 Cash In & Out. Discussion followed. Council will review Resolution #2000-16 to see if any changes can be made.
Brian Kendall from the NW Firefighter’s Motorcycle Rally updated Council on last year’s bike rally. The numbers were low so there was no money to donate back to the City. Brian asked if Clark Avenue between 6th Street and Delaware Avenue could be closed on Saturday July 10, 2010 from 12:00 pm to 12:00 am for the street dance and if a beer garden could be set up. Discussion followed. Valerie Hester motioned to have Clark Ave between 6th Street and Delaware Avenue be closed on Saturday July 10, 2010 from noon to midnight but with a hold placed on the beer garden until more research can be done on it. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried.
Council reviewed Ordinance #2010-04, amending Ordinance #2010-03. Valerie Hester motioned to approve Ordinance #2010-04. Dave Michel seconded; motion carried.
Mayor Couse updated the council on the person that has been hired for the Police Department. He will be going to the academy in March and some equipment will need to be purchased. Discussion followed.
Linda Hall discussed with Council about the stop sign on Leo Gaffney Blvd not being enforced. Discussion followed. Linda stated that this is a school bus stop besides being a stop sign and enforcement needs to be addressed. Discussion followed. Mayor Couse will give a directive to the Police Department to sit down at the stop sign to enforce the law.
Council reviewed a letter received from Teri Cruz from the FC Housing Authority asking for a re-appointment of Charles Sublett. Council stated that a letter of interest is needed from Mr. Sublett before the appointment will be considered. A letter will be sent.
Dave Michel motioned to approve payroll checks #21016 – 21023 in the amount of $4,060.00. Larry Heming seconded; motion carried. Linda Hall abstained.
Linda Hall motioned to approve claims checks #21024-21050 in the amount of $27,755.78. Valerie Hester seconded; motion carried.
Valerie Hester motioned to approve grant checks #781 – 786 in the amount of $231,904.15, with check #785 voided. Larry Heming seconded; motion carried.
Mayor Couse and Council went into executive session at 7:39 pm to discuss a personnel issue about a complaint that was received on an employee for approximately 5 minutes.
Mayor Couse and Council came out of executive session at 7:44 pm.
Linda Hall motioned to adjourn the meeting. Dave Michel seconded; motion carried.
