CITY OF REPUBLIC OCT. 6, 2008 REGULAR MEETING

Those present: Mayor Shirley A. Couse. Council Members: Linda Hall, Jim Burnside, Alex Wirt and DiAnne Hewitt.

Mayor Shirley A. Couse called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Council reviewed the September 15, 2008 minutes. Alex Wirt moved to approve the September 15, 2008 minutes. Linda Hall seconded; motion carried.

Jon Chrysler of the Republic Visitors Bureau discussed with Council about financial support for the 2009 year. Council reviewed the financial support request. No decision was made at this time.

Kathleen McCoy discussed with Council different ways to inform citizens regarding public input. Kathleen stated that the placement of items in the newspaper, in her opinion, was not sufficient enough. Linda Hall stated that she was personally offended by her agenda request and that things are published and flyers posted around town and the only thing that the City Hall doesn’t do is use the internet and it would be a good tool to utilize.

Susan Coffee representing the college, asked about the placement of a sign. Discussion followed. Susan will take the information back to her board.

Mayor Couse read a letter of interest from Esther Merrill for the vacancy on PDA board. DiAnne Hewitt motioned to accept Esther Merrill to the vacate position on the PDA board. Linda Hall seconded; discussion followed. Motion carried.

Alex Wirt informed Council that he had received quotes from Let It Shine on getting more of the historical video. Linda Hall motioned to purchase 100 DVD with 50 cases of the above mentioned video. DiAnne Hewitt seconded; discussion followed. Motion carried.

Public Works Director Casey Giddings discussed with Council about the trailer for the generator that he has found. Council had given permission previously to purchase a trailer for approximately $500.00. The trailer that Casey has found is $900.00. DiAnne Hewitt motioned for Casey to purchase the trailer for $900.00 continuant to his approval. Jim Burnside seconded; discussion followed. Motion carried.

Council reviewed some financial requests that have been received into City Hall. No decisions were made at this time.

Council reviewed letters received into and sent from City Hall.

Council reviewed Building Permit #2008-27.

Mayor Couse discussed with Council the deer issue in the city limits that are getting out of control. Mayor Couse stated that she had visited with Joel Kretz about this issue and asked Council for permission to pursue it. Council agreed.

Alex Wirt stated that he still has some issues with the proposed OHV ordinance that has been drafted up by the City attorney. Mayor Couse suggested that Alex call the City attorney and discuss these issues with him.

Jim Burnside updated the Council on the Cahoon/Jeffery issue. It is in the school board’s hands.

Linda Hall informed Council that a grant has been applied for the remodel on the Golden Age Club to be use as the Police Department. Linda also asked Council for permission to attend the IACC conference, Nov. 5 – 7, 2008. Discussion followed. DiAnne Hewitt motioned for Linda Hall, Shirley Couse and Alex Wirt to attend the IACC conference on Nov. 5 – 7, 2008. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried.

Alex Wirt informed Council that he has resigned as the Law Enforcement Administrator. Alex also updated Council that the Sports Complex monument is in place and it looks nice.

DiAnne Hewitt motioned to approve payroll checks #102985-1023001 in the amount of $33,097.36. Jim Burnside seconded; motion carried. Linda Hall abstained.

Alex Wirt motioned to pay claims checks #19900-19935 in the amount of $27,301.79. DiAnne Hewitt seconded; motion carried.

Alex Wirt motioned to pay Grant checks #745 & 746 in the amount of $2513.88. DiAnne Hewitt seconded; motion carried.

Mayor Couse left the meeting at 7:55 pm.

Linda Hall state that Council needed to start looking at the garbage contract as it will be coming up for renewal in the spring.

Alex Wirt motioned to adjourn the meeting. Linda Hall seconded; motion carried.
