CITY OF REPUBLIC FEB. 1, 2010 REGULAR MEETING

Those present: Mayor Pro Tempore Jim Burnside. Council Members: Dave Michel, Linda Hall, Larry Heming and Valerie Hester.

Employees Present were: Casey Giddings and Ken Marcuson.

Guests Present were: Russ Foster, Loni Simone and Brenda Starkey.

Mayor Pro Tempore Jim Burnside called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Council reviewed the January 19, 2010 minutes. Valerie Hester motioned to approve the January 19, 2010 minutes. Larry Heming seconded, motion carried.

Ken Marcuson discussed with Council why the Police Department needs to have weapons and what it would take to update the existing weapons with modifications. The Police Department has to provide security for the school and this takes a different expertise than their everyday duties. Ken updated the Council on the threat assessments that the FBI has changed. Discussion followed.

Clerk Treasurer Margo Sattler discussed with Council about changing the February 15, 2010 Council meeting to February 16, 2010 due to the President’s Day holiday. Linda Hall motioned to change the regular Council meeting from February 15, 2010 to February 16, 2010. Larry Heming seconded; discussion followed, motion carried.

Council reviewed Ordinance #2010-03, providing the correct beginning balance for 2010. Larry Heming motioned to approve Ordinance #2010-03. Dave Michel seconded; discussion followed, motion carried.

Council reviewed a letter received from Tyler Wirt asked for the spare tires. Council stated that the car was sold “as is” and no other equipment was to go with it. The tires may be added to the surplus list in the spring. A letter will be sent to Mr. Wirt.

Council reviewed Building Permit #2010-02.

Jim Burnside discussed with Council about the Police Department using the same time sheets as the rest of the City departments. Jim will discuss this with the Mayor.

Valerie Hester motioned to appoint Dave Michel as Mayor Pro Tempore Pro Tempore. Larry Heming seconded; discussion followed, motion carried. Dave Michel abstained.

Larry Heming motioned to approve payroll checks #20977 – 20992 in the amount of $30,426.65. Dave Michel seconded; motion carried. Linda Hall abstained.

Dave Michel motioned to approve claims checks #20994-20915 in the amount of $16,773.11, with check #20993 voided due to printing error. Larry Heming; motion carried.

Valerie Hester motioned to adjourn the meeting. Linda Hall seconded; motion carried.

Meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
