Wings Over Republic this Weekend
Aircraft of all description will fly into the Ferry County Airport this weekend. Join us to see the many types of planes, socialize with pilots from throughout the northwest, listen to the entertainment and join in the barbeque dinner.

From the Police Chief's Desk

Summer is here and lawns, flowers and fruit trees are growing and blooming and that attracts the wildlife. The does have their fawns and they are generally not aggressive, yes, this is true. What we have are a few isolated run-ins between canine, deer and human. If a canine isn't on a leash and starts to bark and chase a deer and the deer turns on the dog, this isn't the deer's fault. Then if the canine's owner attempts to save their canine they are putting themselves in danger too. Now, I would try to save my animal too, so this isn't about siding with the deer, but common sense tells us that if you try to get a wild animal to stop an attack, you are placing yourself in harm's way. That's why they are called wildlife. The solution is to follow the City Code and put your canine on a leash and if there are deer present, make sure you have hold of the leash.

The Republic Police Department is working on a plan to deal with the deer heard in town, but we must remember that we live in the country and the wildlife is a part of our life. Also remember that City Code prohibits feeding the wildlife, and that all canines must be licensed inside the city limits. It could cost $250 if you are caught. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 775-2812 or email me at reppd@rcabletv.com

Thank you,
Nick Merritt
